Pekanbaru, August 19, 2025 – A team from the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Riau (UNRI) visited the Pekanbaru Center for Standardization and Industrial Services (BSPJI) as an initial step in fostering synergy in empowering the MSME industry and establishment of Industrial Engineering Study Program.
The meeting, held at the BSPJI Pekanbaru office, was attended by the Head of BSPJI Pekanbaru, Siti Rohmatul Umah, along with Eka Syaputra, BSPJI Industrial Advisor, and a team of lecturers from the Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, UNRI: Anita Susilawati, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Yohanes, S.T., M.T., Dr. Ir. M. Dalil, S.T., M.T., IPU, Muftil Badri, S.T., M.T., Anggraini Dwi Saputri, S.T., M.Sc., Rion, and accompanied by Dr. Jahrizal.

During the discussion, both parties discussed opportunities for research collaboration with the support of BSPJI, particularly in product certification, industrial standardization, and applicable regulations. The agreed-upon forms of collaboration include:
- ISO 9001 training
- Equipment calibration
- Product certification
- Industrial mentoring and tool manufacturing consultation to increase productivity
- Internship programs impact students
- Furthermore, community service is a priority so that the benefits of this synergy can be directly felt by MSMEs in Riau.
During the meeting, the UNRI Mechanical Engineering lecturers also requested BSPJI's support for the planned establishment of an Industrial Engineering Study Program. BSPJI expressed its support in the form of a letter of support for the establishment of the study program, while further support will be expressed through a derivative Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) between BSPJI and UNRI Industrial Engineering or the Mechanical Engineering Department, given that an MoU with UNRI is already in place.

BSPJI emphasized the importance of sustainable MSME development. Currently, there are approximately 16,000 MSMEs in Pekanbaru, but many of them are struggling to survive. Through the synergy between BSPJI and the Faculty of Engineering, UNRI, it is hoped that MSMEs can obtain technical assistance, standardization, and certification to increase their competitiveness and business sustainability.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to establish an industrial engineering study program and strengthen collaboration between academics and standardization institutions to support the growth of resilient and competitive MSMEs (AP/HNA)
