Pekanbaru, August 25, 2025 – The Mechanical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau, held a 2D CAD Drafting Competency Test for students at the Department of Mechanical Engineering's Computational Design Laboratory. The test took place on Monday–Tuesday, August 25–26, 2025, and featured assessors from LSP LMI, Mr. Hari Setyanto and Mr. Atep Yoga Rakasiwi.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fadli, MT., Ph.D., who in his remarks emphasized the importance of the competency test as part of efforts to improve study program accreditation and achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPI). Furthermore, Prof. Fadli stated that this activity also focused on the suitability of field of expertise, where graduates are expected to work according to their expertise in mechanical engineering. Furthermore, the competency test also provided graduates with a Diploma Supplement (SKPI), further strengthening their competitiveness in the industrial world.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department, Dr. Dodi Sofyan Arief, ST., MT, in his remarks emphasized that this competency test is highly relevant to the needs of the business and industrial world (DUDI). He explained several key points regarding the benefits of this activity:
- Preparing graduates with a job waiting period of less than three months.
- Equipping graduates to work in their field of study, namely Mechanical Engineering.
- Providing graduates with not only a diploma but also a Diploma Supporting Certificate (SKPI).
- Training CAD drafting competencies, which are highly sought after by industry today.
The event, which began with an opening remarks, and a prayer, was followed by a competency test, divided into two sessions (August 25–26, 2025). This competency test is expected to provide significant benefits for students and strengthen the quality of graduates from the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Riau.
In closing his remarks, the Head of the Department delivered a motivational poem:
"Competence is achieved through diligent study.

With strong knowledge and competencies,
Mechanical Engineering graduates are guaranteed to be ready to face the tough challenges of the working world."
